Ghana’s Minister of Aviation visits the grounds of Tamale’s Airport Phase 2

Ghana’s Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, and representatives of the KFW Ipex Bank – which structures and fund the project – visited on February 23rd the location where the Tamale´s Airport “Phase 2 – Terminal and Auxiliary Facilities” will be carried out.

QGMI, which already participated in the airport expansion works that ended in 2016, will be responsible for designing and building of this phase 2. It includes the construction of a modern international terminal of approximately 5000 m2, access roads and ancillary facilities exclusive for civil aviation. The implementation of a management system, equipment for integrated passengers, luggage processing and the creation of a car parking, among others, are also contemplated.

The works are expected to begin in May 2019 and will be developed over the next 26 months. The project has the support of The United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF), which has granted an export credit guarantee.

Tamale’s airport expansion is a priority for the Ghanaian Government. With its implementation, it is expected to promote the growth of the region’s economy, to enhance tourism and to boost socioeconomic development by improving connections to the north of the country. In addition, the Hajj pilgrims will benefit with the new Multipurpose Facility which will serve as a terminal building during the Hajj Season.
